Jenny and I were heading out of the city over the weekend. Nothing too extravagant, a long
drive, a good stay at a nice hotel away from a noisy city and exceptional company was the
weekend’s agenda.

I spotted him coming out of the water, majestic, water dripping from his body. In his right-hand was his
surfing board held close and firm. His left hand moved back and forth as he began a soft jog onto the
shore. He started towards my direction. Every step felt like an earthquake. Time slowed down. A small
quiver on my lips, suddenly the air shifted and I could feel a chill coming on.
If you lost someone and found yourself then you didn’t actually take an L, you won so here’s a round of
applause for all of us who took steps in the right direction. Diani marked a turning point for me and in the end I have come to realize that sunsets are live proof that endings could be beautiful too.
